Little Bo-Peep Pages

by Alison on January 29, 2007

I’ve been enjoying so many of the free ideas and resources listed at Ambleside Online lately.  I’m very seriously considering going through year 1 with both Liberty and Jaron next year… we’ll see… for now I’ve added some fun in going through as many of the books listed for ‘year 0′ as we have [...]

Monday, Monday… Jan 29

by Alison on January 29, 2007

Well, this wasn’t our usual Monday.  We stayed home from orchestra due to too many sick little girls.  One sick little girl is too many, I know.  I’ve got 3 sick right now, plus a slightly congested baby.  We did bring Liberty and Hope in on Friday, the lungs were clear despite a very ‘wet’ [...]

Recitals- the picture backlog

by Alison on January 28, 2007

Finally got around to cropping and resizing some pictures…
Here’s one from the boys’ first Homeschool Orchestra concert (in November)
It was really fun to watch (for us parents anyway, I can’t vouch for the rest of the audience…)  They combined the ‘advanced’ groups into one giant orchestra and they played more complicated parts of Christmas carols [...]

Chapter One- A Meek and Quiet Spirit, Part 2

by Alison on January 26, 2007

Webster’s New World Thesaurus on meek-
a. 1. [Humble] unassuming, plain, mild; see humble 1, modest 2.
2. [Long-suffering] passive, resigned, serene; see patient 1.
3. [Lacking spirit] submissive, compliant, subdued; see docile, resigned.
meekness, n, submission, mildness, timidity; see humility.
Serene, I like that one- it’s so peaceful, calm, and beautiful, a wonderful goal for the attitude we display [...]

Chapter One- A Meek and Quiet Spirit, Part 1

by Alison on January 25, 2007

I’ve been reading Homeschooling With a Meek and Quiet Spirit by Teri Maxwell again, it’s my first book for the new year’s personal enrichment reading.  I really like this book.  I appreciate the author’s openness  and honesty as well as her gentle way of admonishing us mothers to do right by our children in [...]

Colds, Asthma, & Pediatric Home Service

by Alison on January 25, 2007

I got a call on Tuesday from Pediatric Home Service wondering about scheduling a visit to check up on the girls as it has been a couple of months since our last visit to Children’s Respiratory and Critical Care down in St. Paul.  They checked into it for me, and the visit is totally [...]

Monday, Monday… Jan 22

by Alison on January 24, 2007

It’s Wednesday, I know… and what a Wednesday it has been.  I thought Monday was a long day…
Monday was slated to be a long day, like usual.  We have orchestra practice and several violin and piano practices every Monday- it gets long, but it’s doable.  Well, this Monday everyone felt like sleeping in, [...]

RR #3 – King Arthur & Robin Hood 'Audio Books'

by Alison on January 19, 2007

I’m a firm believer in reading aloud with your children, believe me, I am.  We try to read a "chapter book" at the lunch table most days (and often the breakfast and supper tables too!)  But it doesn’t always work out, or even when it does sometimes my kids really enjoy even more story [...]

Jesus Paid It All

by Alison on January 17, 2007

This is the last hymn we sang for special music with my sister and her husband- it’s a powerful one (not the singing, but the words!) and it was a blessing to sing, I pray it will be a blessing to be heard.  Click the title to listen, if you right-click and open [...]

Age Is In the Eye of the Beholder

by Alison on January 16, 2007

It came up in conversation with a friend that I actually had 6 kids…
Liberty, nearly 6, delightedly exclaimed, "And you’re not even old!"
How sweet is that?!
