Friday Food for Thought

by Alison on May 28, 2010

Bring on the summer fun & picnic food!
No major plans for the holiday weekend here.  We’ll be taking it easy and getting some sun, probably mostly in our own backyard, which, after all, is pretty much our favorite place to be.  It’s all good.
Getting me thinking this week-

Sheila’s 25 Marriage Tips- there is some good [...]

It’s Just a Cold

by Alison on May 27, 2010

She coughs.  I worry.
It’s the nature of the game, being a mother, an ordinary mom.
Maybe I worry a little bit more so being an asthma mom, having gone through several hospitalizations with 2 of our girls and their quickly developing pneumonias when the wheezing comes on fast and strong.  Or maybe every mother worries with every [...]

Kids Crack Me Up!

by Alison on May 18, 2010

Recently overheard-
3 yr old Mercy – “Mom, my hippucks make my breath be gone.”
Translation (I think): “Mom, my hiccups take my breath away.”
More Mercy- “Mom, you’re getting big like a giant door.”
(She’s been into comparing sizes lately… but, a giant door?!)
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance
Proverbs 15:13a
5 yr old Hope- “I like it outside [...]

Multitude Monday 381-390

A Favorite Book on Friday

by Alison on May 14, 2010

We’re loving our current read-aloud- James Herriot’s Treasury for Children: Warm and Joyful Tales by the Author of All Creatures Great and Small.  My children cannot get enough of this book- we’d read it in one sitting if they had their way.  My voice would be quite hoarse and we would probably miss a meal [...]

Lifestyle Learning- Kodiaks and Komodos

by Alison on May 13, 2010

A recent example of what I like to call our lifestyle of learning-
While seated around the table together, enjoying a Saturday morning breakfast of Mr. Extraordinary’s biscuits and sausage gravy, one of our children was turning the pages of a very old copy of Today’s biggest animals (A golden look-look book).  Naturally, the child sitting [...]
