Overheard In the Garden…

by Alison on June 29, 2010

While I was weeding…
Grace, curiously- “What on earth is that?”
Jaron, matter-of-factly- “It’s probably rabbit poop.”
Liberty, casually- “Oh, it’s good.”
Grace, incredulously- “You’ve tried it?!?!”
Me- “Please do not eat rabbit poop.”
Liberty- “I meant for the plants…”
Grace- “Ooooh. yeah, right, it’s good for the plants.”
I’m really glad we cleared that up, because I gag at the thought of [...]

Because there were so many sweet ones…

431. thankful for a break in the rain…

432. getting over (at least on that day) my tendency to give up too easily when things are looking like they may not work out

433. taking a chance, and taking a day trip, rain or no rain (my sweet children were so [...]

Strawberries Sampled Here

by Alison on June 26, 2010

We took a chance, and made a dash to a local berry farm during a break in all of the rain that has been soaking the Formerly Frozen Tundra…

We have used so many different kinds of flash cards over the years.  That sort of makes it sound like we’re flash card heavy around here, and we really aren’t.  We do try to use a wide variety of materials to introduce new concepts and to review concepts, everything from numbers, to colors, types of [...]

Mom’s Coffee

by Alison on June 21, 2010

Mercy was playing on the table (yes, I know, I said on, because she was) with the potato heads and some rubber duckies, when I heard a concerned “Mom, get your coffee off the table!”
Seconds before, I had noticed how close she was to my 3/4ths full cup of morning coffee.  I was already moving [...]

Sunday Hymn, Springs of Living Water

by Alison on June 20, 2010

Springs of Living Water
by John W. Peterson, 1921-
I thirsted in the barren land of sin and shame,
And nothing satisfying there I found;
But to the blessed cross of Christ one day I came,
Where springs of living water did abound.
CHORUS
Drinking at the springs of living water,
Happy now am I,
My soul they satisfy;
Drinking at the springs of living water,
O wonderful [...]

by Alison on June 19, 2010

Breathing much better, though still easily winded and a bit wheezy, Gracie is “finally free from that jail!”
He, he, jail, huh?
“Well, they wouldn’t let me go!”

Back In the Hospital

by Alison on June 17, 2010

(the note to remind me to pick up her black bear)
I hear “maybe she’ll grow out of it soon”  a lot.  I have the hopeful thought myself, frequently.  She still could grow out of it, but the present reality is that Gracie has landed herself in the hospital something like 10 times in the past [...]
