We had a cd of Sunday School Songs playing yesterday. As much as I love classic hymns, I may love Sunday School songs just a wee little bit more because they’re so easy to memorize and it’s so cute to see little children light up and sing along. There I was, softly singing along as I was folding some laundry, “Jesus may come in the morning, Jesus may come at noon, Jesus may come in the evening, so keep your heart in tune”, and it hit me.
He really could come. At any time.
Am I keeping my heart in tune?
Did I make an effort to keep my heart in tune (because, yes, it takes effort) yesterday? Am I making an effort today? Will I remember how important it is to make an effort tomorrow?
1O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.
2Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.
3Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.
4Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.
5Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
Psalm 105:1-5
It was a sweet and gentle reminder to keep on keepin’ on in the faith and in the faithful raising of our children, for how will they know to keep their hearts in tune if they do not see their mother working to keep hers in tune?
Continuing with my list-
411. simple songs with simple messages to sing about the Lord
412. a heart tugged and a conscience pricked in response to one of those songs with a simple message
413. mercies that are new every morning
414. children growing up and blossoming right before my very eyes
415. a toddler and a preschooler whose patience-trying fits and tantrums remind me that:
-I’m not a perfect parent
-I need to stay humble
-children are natural-born sinners
-I have a job to do
416. some time with the sewing machine
417. some time baking cookies
418. community ed
419. Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre
420. a week of work and play that our children will not soon forget!
