ProFlowers Giveaway and a Pain In the Neck

by Alison on July 13, 2010

Totally two separate things.

There is no pain whatsoever involved in the ProFlowers giveaway!

There is, however, a pain in our sweet Mercy’s neck.  Unusual.  3 yr olds don’t often complain of pain in the neck.  3 yr olds can often be a pain in the neck, but that is an entirely different thing…

She came downstairs complaining that her neck hurt.  She was using both hands to hold up her head and wouldn’t let go with just one hand even to hold a sippy cup full of milk.  She’s a certifiable milk-aholic, so this was rather concerning.  No rashes, no fevers, no convulsion, seizures, or limp limbs.  Just an incredibly sore neck.  She cried, which isn’t all that unusual for her (she’s sort of our emotional one, and yes, I know how much of an understatement sort of is), but wanting to spend more than 3 seconds with an ice pack is, on the other hand, quite unusual for her.

Propped up with a pillow and her favorite purple sweater, knit by my sister, sucking on a little blue sucker (still working through that ‘too much candy’ from the parade… I’m tempted to misplace it, you know, accidentally) holding the beloved sippy cup I needed to carry to the couch for her because she wouldn’t let go of her neck…

If she had showed any sign of a fever, I would’ve had her at the doc’s office faster than you can say “Please, don’t let it be meningitis!”, but like I mentioned, no fever.  I think I may have taken her temp every 20 minutes for several hours, just to be sure.  We already had a Wednesday morning chiropractor appointment on the schedule, so we’ll see what he thinks.  She was moving better by mid-afternoon, or I would’ve made the drive today, but since she decided she was well enough to get off the couch and drive the vintage Fisher Price Circus Train back and forth all over the main floor, I figured it could wait a few hours…

We started seeing a new chiropractor recently and we have high hopes that we may be able to find some relief from not only my years of neck pain and associated headaches, but also the immune system boosts that our asthmatic girls need to bring them to a place where they have fewer and fewer flare-ups.  We’ve seen chiropractors on and off for many years, so getting an adjustment is nothing new to us, but a chiropractor so committed to corrective care vs. pain management is something new.  His office is plastered with success stories.  We hope to be among them one of these days.

** We’ll be working on some “cave drawings” and primitive things like that the rest of this week, watch for a post or two of a messy kid or three (there will be paint involved as well as some crushed berries for dye, fun stuff, even if it does require an extra cleansing-breath or two on my part…)
*** We have 2 Monarch used-to-be-caterpillars but soon-will-be-butterflies in their chrysalis stage! Waiting and watching, and hoping to catch some video when they emerge!
