Ian’s Cancer Story & Updates

On July 29th, 2011, we were called in to the pediatrician’s office to talk about the results of the MRI our oldest son had the day before.

Life, as we knew it, changed on that day…

But one thing didn’t change. The Lord, and His perfect love, is a constant, sometimes the only constant- as the old hymn says, “Yesterday, today, forever, Jesus is the same!”

We’re trusting and leaning on Him, His grace, His goodness, and His mercy as we walk this hard path with our son. We thank you all for your prayers, and thank Him for you, His people, and the way He has been using you to bless our family!

The Journey-

Pediatricians, MRIs, and Neurologists, Oh My! The brief story of the day we learned that something was wrong.

Optimistic {About a Brain Tumor?!} Hearing the words mass & tumor, meeting the neurosurgeon, being given such hope for a very different outcome…

No More Tumor Surgery day, it was long, it was surreal, and did I mention it was long?

Hardest Birthday Ever The day the word Medulloblastoma sucked the wind from our sails, my birthday…

As If Brain Cancer Wasn’t Bad Enough Hearing the word Medulloblastoma is hard, SEEING Posterior Fossa Syndrome is harder, much, much harder…

Overwhelming Support Overwhelming support in the midst of an overwhelming time…

HUGE Sigh of Relief! Ian’s 1st full-spine MRI was clear! Mets on the spine at diagnosis would’ve made things much harder from the get-go…

Another Test His 1st lumbar puncture and rehab fatigue & discouragement begin to show…

Doing Dishes Makes Me Cry Yes, having to do the dishes made me cry, the hard reality was settling in…

Few Words On Wednesday The rest of the children being well-cared-for, LP results looked good, 1st infection sets in, increasing pain is discouraging and hampering rehab…

Updates-

I am long overdue for an update! Ian is doing great overall. He did have another major bump in the road in June, when he ended up needing an urgent surgery, and the healing from that, physically, and this time especially emotionally, was pretty hard on him. He has rebounded, and was blessed with a trip out to Camp-Mak-A-Dream, in Montana, with other teen cancer survivors. The trip was so good for him in so many ways!

He did have another round of chemo, Round 5, just after the 4th of July, and is definitely feeling the effects of it this week… (7/16-7/20)

How you can help-

A Simple Way to Help

Pray, pray, pray… and if you feel so inclined, please consider ‘attending’ the Pray for Ian Williams! facebook event. At last check, there were 34,056 people ‘attending’, representing so many of our states and several countries around the world!

After several people asked about helping us with expenses, we did set up a FundRazr app on facebook. Thank you so much to those who have blessed our family in this way, really, thank you so much!

Praying always! You should consider making (having someone make) a button. I’d gladly put it on my blog to remind people to pray. Would even make one for you but I do not know how! Keep your eyes on Jesus!

You are far from an “ordinary” mom. Your faith is amazing. Your strength, God given. You are a wonderful example to all moms out there. I am humbled reading the accounts of your son and his ongoing process of healing and recovery. Keep up your faithful walk with our Lord and Savior. May God bless and heal Ian quickly and amaze those around you.

I found your after your comment left at We are That family. I will be following you now.

I just noticed these updates don’t show up in the RSS feed. I will make it a point to check back more often.
You and your family continue to be in my prayers.

I check this site everyday. What a God filled family you are. I know you are so busy, but please give us some updates on Ian so that we can pray specifically for his needs. I follow and pray for Ian and a little girl named Kate every day. Stay strong, God is good.

Ali,

I just stumbled onto your blog and got caught up reading abut your son Ian. I noticed that you have an inclination for the natural and are familiar with essential oils, have you considered using Frankensense for the cancer? It is very anti-cancer and if you go to pub med and type in frankincense and cancer you will find a host of published medical research on it. It is very safe and people have used it along with the chemotherapy drugs very effectively. There is only one brand I would feel 100% about recommending to you and that is doTERRA. If you have any questions I would be happy to help you get some answers.

Good Luck and I know God is mindful of you and your family!
