Instagram Is the New Scrapbooking

I love the idea of scrapbooking.

Pages and pages of pictures and commentary telling the tales of The Days of Our Lives, lovingly assembled one rainy day afternoon at a time.

But it ain’t happenin’ here.

At least not anytime soon…

For the past few years, my blog has become my digital scrapbook. (Am I the product of a new technical generation, or what?)

Yep, I’ve actually gone back to an old new baby post to double check the birth weight of a child. More than once.

‘Tis true.

Yum! Don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it! :)

Then along came Instagram (find me @anordinarymom).

And (my substitutionary form of) scrapbooking became even easier.

Instagram Is the New Scrapbooking

I snap pics all the time, on my real camera (I shoot with a Canon EOS 50D, love it!), and often more spur-of-the-moment on my phone, capturing images to go along with the memories we’re making each and every day.

“Time to put these boots to good use! #snow #Bogs #playoutside #bethefunmom”

I share many of my favorites on Instagram (are you following @anordinarymom?), and take a few moments to share in the joy of many of your photos too.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I’m thinking that Instagram must be worth a few billion…

I’m thinking that as this year zooms past at lightening speed marches on, I’ll upload my favorite Instagram pics to a Shutterfly photo book so at the end of the year I’ll have an easy-peasy InstaScrapbook that doesn’t require any special glues or tapes, and can even be reprinted (you know, for copies for the grandparents, or maybe another copy to replace the one the toddler spilled another cup of coffee on…)

Instagram or no Instagram, I want to encourage you to capture the moments with your precious loved ones. And even more important than that, make moments to capture! Watch for moments (they’re happening all the time), and most importantly- learn to BE PRESENT in the moment!

Blessings!

Today’s post inspired by my lovely friend Rachel at finding joy. :)

I love this! I’ve taken to using Shutterfly and other photbook making services as a substitute for scrapbooking. I love them! They do make wonderful gifts. I love the idea of making a book out of Instagram photos. :)

Shutterfly has become one of my favorite things :)

And now so has Instagram…

I think they’ll make a fabulous team! :D

Isn’t it amazing how much things have changed?! I’m planning on hanging on to my scrapbooking materials to make cards, then, if nothing happens with that, I may try to sell it all. I’m learning to embrace the fact that I’m just not a crafty girl like that, but I can appreciate those who are! I’d much rather take pictures, so Instagram is perfect for me!
