Tenney, on a good day a while back. Look at that cutie!
From CaringBridge 11/22-
Unfortunately, even if the new meds worked like we had hoped, the cancer is growing too fast. Even if they came out with the perfect medicine to treat Tenney’s cancer, it would be too late for our Tenney…
I cannot even begin to express how quickly this has happened. Last Thursday Tenney was acting perfectly healthy and playing Kinect. By Friday night, he was too tired and started needing oxygen around the clock. Saturday the fevers started. By Monday he was having trouble saying more than a few words at a time, was sleeping more, vomitting more, and in pain…
We are trying to keep his pain under control without sedating him as much as possible. They believe Tenney will only make it another 24-72 hours…
Please pray for peace for all of us as we spend this holiday together here at Children’s. We have had so many visitors and this is just what Tenney wants. Please especially pray for peace for Tenney as he makes this transition, and pray that we can control his pain.
The past week has been SO hard, I can’t even begin to really put it into words. Long days stretching into long evenings just being there for my sister & her husband through this time. Watching my precious nephew deteriorate as the hearts of those that love him break a little more each hour. Some new symptoms & unplanned extra scans for Ian (scans looked stable, thank the Lord, but so far no clear reason for new symptoms to flare-up). Last days of a pregnancy & an impending birth that I find myself barely having enough time to think about and feeling so unprepared for…
Thank you for your prayers!
**End of update**
Friends, we covet your prayers.
As we rejoice with and for our own son, Ian, in celebrating his finishing treatment for the cancer that has forever changed all of our lives, our hearts are so heavy after hearing the news that my sister’s little boy, Tenney, is not doing as well as we have been hoping…
From her facebook page-
“Tenney’s tumors are not responding to these meds and continue to grow. We are on to plan C. Please keep us in your prayers! Caringbridge.org/visit/Tenney“
And from CaringBridge-
The tumors are becoming more dense and about 2/3 of his right lung is now involved (note: involved doesn’t mean filled with, so he is still getting some breath support from it).
With continued, accelerated growth we need to find an agent that will stabilize or start to kill this with much more urgency to prevent spread. Tenney’s doctor already has a plan of action of two new chemotherapy agents that she would like to start on Tuesday. She is hoping his counts will be sufficiently recovered by then.
We’re all hoping, sweetie!!
Please pray his counts rebound sufficiently by Tuesday so he can start these new meds. The last course of medication was based on two anecdotal cases of lung mets from other sarcomas responding. This new course is based on sound science, but no one has ever tried this. He will now be using Vorinostat and Bortezomib. One of these is known to cause some pretty profound neuropathy, so he will be starting a new medication to help prevent this from becoming severe or painful.
Please pray for wisdom for ourselves and the doctors, for open doors where there should be open doors, and for God to step in and save Tenney’s life. We know our God is so much bigger than chemo resistant Wilm’s with diffuse anaplasia and that He is fully able of bringing healing to Tenney in His time. We know if He choses not to intervene it will be for a greater purpose that we will one day understand when we are reunited in heaven. However, we can’t imagine being stuck here on earth without Tenney. I can’t imagine Henry growing up without his best friend and hero.
When our trials began, I was blown away by the support that came from nearly every state in our blessed country, and from several other countries around the world. Cards & letters, random little gifts, etc… I’d love to pass that on, for my sister and her family to feel some of that amazing love from strangers near & far, as they continue to walk this very, very, hard road.
Would you consider messaging me on facebook to get the address of our PO Box (I don’t want to publicly post their actual address) and perhaps add Tenney, his little brother Henry, and their amazing parents, Ashley & Adam, to your holiday cards list?
Thank you, dear readers, for your prayers, for your visits to Tenney’s CaringBridge site, and for considering sending a card to spread a little love & joy in this time of trial. I just cannot thank you enough, I’m so truly grateful for you all, and for what you’ve taught me, about love & grace, and being the hands and feet of Jesus for the hurting world around us, THANK YOU!
Would you consider sharing? On facebook? Twitter? Pinterest? Everywhere? Let’s FLOOD them with cards, and prayers, and LOVE!
A P. S from Ashley- “Friends and family, if you have been thinking of sending a card, could you toss in a handmade paper snowflake? We love to hang these all over, but just haven’t had time this year. Tenney would be so excited!” Project!! Let’s flood them with snowflakes!! #snowflakes4Tenney
